    Post World War II Home Makeover Before & After: Post-War homes were built in the 1940’s and 50’s. This home was 777 square feet and not large enough for the growing family. We completely renovated this home and added on about 1,300 square feet. This open floor plan addition included enlarging the kitchen, adding on the bedrooms, family room, and rear covered porch that’s opens off the family room.     These 3 contemporary style single family homes were built in East Nashville by Drew Sloss of Sloss Fine Woodworking. The houses have an open floor plan on the first floor with the square footage ranging from 1,165 to 1,239 square feet in each home.

    Drew is a very talented builder who pays close attention to every detail & selection of interior design elements, landscaping and site planning. He even creates and makes custom lighting when he can’t find the right light fixture!

    This two-story townhome is a modern interpretation of the historic “shotgun home.” It features a spacious, open floor plan on the first floor, which is great for entertaining. Each unit is only 1,285 sq. ft., yet visitors say that the homes feel much larger than the actual square footage.     The Clayton on 6th Avenue North was planned by Trust Development, LLC. Selecting great plans for the site, coupled with a talented interior designer, set the stage for a grand finale for this transitioning neighborhood. The interior designer, Star Moberg, had fun with the playful exterior colors, giving the homes an uplifting and cohesive feel.

    The two story modern interpretations of Victorian-style row homes feature spacious open floor plans on the first floor, which is great for entertaining. All three homes feature three bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms. The one and half story home was designed after the early 1900’s Transitional Victorians, and it features a spacious, open floor plan and a master suite on the first floor.     Having a functional modern garage apartment gives you several options. A short-term rental or long-term rental on your residential premises is convenient, with some revenue, and adds value to your property. Maybe you want to use the accessory building for an office or overflow for an out-of-town guest. This building solves the usual problem of accommodating your visitors, who will spend a few days with you.

    We suggest building a DADU, which stands for a Detached Accessory Dwelling Unit. The G128 plan is an example of a 1 ½ story Garage Apartment DADU building, with the garage at 994 square feet and the living space upstairs at 700 square feet. The apartment square footage was calculated at 5′-0″ knee walls and above. This accessory building was built as a 2 car garage plan with an apartment above. However, it could be modified to be a 3 car garage plan with the apartment above.

    HEIGHTS AND ZONING.

    The height of this modern garage apartment is under 25’-0” tall from the finish concrete slab with an eave height of less than 10’-0″ from the finish concrete slab. In Nashville, DADU’s cannot be taller than your home or are limited in height to 25′-0″ or 27′-0″ depending on your zoning.
